2010 Draggins Rod & Custom Car Club
50th Annual Car Show
Friday April 2 and Saturday April 3 2010

The 50th car show has generated some increased excitement & sense of celebration resulting in some new features as part of this year's show. Some energetic & enthusiastic sponsors have arranged for special exhibits such as one of the original three Batmobile touring cars. This car was replicated from the original built by George Barris for the first Batmobile TV series. It will be accompanied by a professional Adam West Batman look-a-like in costume who will pose for pictures with car show visitors. Duane Mayer from the TV show 'American Hot Rods' will be present to visit with car show patrons, sign autographs, & talk about the hobby & the show. An Elvis Presley impersonator named The Cadillac Kid will be performing a number of sets during the show along with other live music appearing on stage such as The Hot Rod Hullabaloo Rock-a-Billy Band & the Swistonions playing 50's/60's music.
The show will also include a significant nostalgia theme. Cars from early shows, alumni members of the Draggins Car Club & current Club members have come together to produce a huge display to capture some of the history of past car shows & club cars. We will be using additional space in a portion of Hall 'A' as well as Halls 'C' 'D' & 'E' to provide more display space.
Hot Rods
A number of outstanding hot rods have entered the show including a brilliant yellow '32 Ford 5 window Coupe with a
2 1/2 inch top chop, a 36 Chev Master Flatback sedan with a shaved rare body style, a '24 T Bucket, a '27 Dodge Coupe, a '34 Ford 3 window Coupe & more.
Customs
An great array of Customs will be on display at the show such as;
-a '60 Chevrolet custom convertible with a '54 Chev grill, '59 Cadillac taillights built on air suspension & finished in dazzling paint
-a '77 Lincoln Continental radical low rider custom
-a first time shown '46 Mercury Convertible with a deep champagne Burgandy paint job, 2" chop, nosed, decked, and frenched with a full leather interior
-a '72 Chevelle 2 door with a 502 fuel injected engine built on a Hotchkiss suspension and painted in deep blue metallic finished with Yenko style pin striping
-a '55 Chevrolet Bel-Air with a SBC 383 stroker engine on a Corvette suspension finished with a sunglasses required paint job that shades from silver to black
Custom Trucks
The popularity of custom trucks continues to grow with a number of interesting examples such as a '41 Ford 1/2 ton in flame paint with a 2 1/1" chop, frenched taillights & a custom leather interior. Also a '49 Ford 1/2 ton pick up & a '62 IHC SUV 4 x 4, plus more.
Special Interest Vehicles
Many special interest vehicles attract much attention as well. A few early entrants ready to be viewed are;

-a flame painted '32 Ford hot rod coupe, a '51 Chev Fleetline Deluxe Custom & a '63 Corvette 'split window' coupe will be displayed by one owner
- a single owner will be showing their radical build '32 Ford custom & a '69 Camaro RS/SS custom that's sectioned, chopped & Corvette suspended
-a female owner will be bringing her '56 Thunderbird convertible & a '66 Mustang convertible
-two 1968 Beaumonts, a Coupe & a SD 396 by the same owner
-a '64 Ford Galaxie XL hardtop & a '80 Trans Am Special one owner display
-a three car one owner display of a '66 Acadian Canso, a '71 Pontiac Ventura, & a '72 Rally Nova
The car Show attracts many multiple car displays from groups & car clubs such as; the Saskatoon Mopar Club, the Saskatoon Mustang & Classic Ford Club, the Valley Kruzers, Team Dearborn, the Saskatoon Antique Auto Club, the Dusty Wheels Auto Club, the Saskatchewan Drag Racing Assoc, the Majestic's Car Club, the Saskatoon Sports Car Club, the Eliminators Car Club, the Saskatoon Shifters, the Saskatoon International Raceway Street
Legal group, the Saskatoon Stock Car Racing Assoc. & others.
Battle of the Automotive Technicians
The extremely popular "Battle of the Automotive Technicians" returns featuring teams of two attempting to assemble a V8 engine in the fastest time. Using the same engine blocks, hand tools, & engine parts, these teams will assemble an engine from parts to running in less than 10 minutes as they compete for their share of over $6000 in trophies, cash & major merchandise prizes provided by our many sponsors.
"Active Displays"
The Draggins Car Club members always appreciate the time & energy put forth to their Car Show by the many people that set up wonderful active displays that promote safety & deliver knowledge to those attending such as;
-a rollover simulator demonstration sponsored by SGI & the RCMP illustrating how seat belts save lives in rollovers by using crash test dummies.
-air bag demonstrations sponsored by SGI Salvage Division illustrating how the air bag is deployed in a collision & showing why it is dangerous to transport children in the front seat on an air bag equipped vehicle.
-SGI Highway Standards Safety Officers will explain vehicle safety regulations that will ensure the required standards are know for the construction of a safe vehicle.
-SGI Examining Officers will invite visitors to experience how their driving skills are impacted while under simulated impairment of various degrees & who are Certified Child Safety Seat Technicians that will have Child Safety Seats & a vehicle seat there to demonstrate proper & improper installation.
-Saskatoon City Police Traffic Division will be in attendance with their motorcycle displayed & current new technology that is in use in their police cruisers. Stop by with any questions or just say "Hello"
Vendor Booths & Saskatchewan Abilities Council
There is always a great deal of activity surrounding the Vendor's booths at the Car Show. If your interests are memorabilia, vintage license plates or books, wonderful art, stationery, new car parts, & much more, be sure to check out the Vendor displays.
The Saskatchewan Abilities Council will be set up with their souvenirs of the 50th Car Show. The "much in demand" T-shirts, mugs, coffee cups & magnets usually sell out very early, with proceeds going to Camp Easter Seal.
Cool Car Corral
Car Show activities continue in the parking lot (weather permitting) with the Cool Car Corral where visitors to the show can leave their 'cool cars' for others to look at during their visit to the show. A designated area will be clearly marked near the building entrance for your convenience.
Hot Wheels Toys
For the youngsters, the Mattel Corporation will be providing "Hot Wheels" model toy cars compliments of Wal-Mart to the first 2,000 children accompanied by an adult attending the car show each day.
Drag Con 50 Modelling Contest
The Scale Modellers Association of Saskatchewan is producing an extensive model competition & display depicting a model car show complete with awards & trophies for best entries. Entry fee in to the contest will be included in the admission price to the Car Show. Check out the page devoted to "Drag Con 50" in the drop down under the 2010 Car Show heading.
Admission to the Car Show is $10.00 for adults 16 years of age to 64 years of age and $5.00 for children 6 to 15 years of age and Seniors. Pre schoolers accompanied by an adult and visitors in wheel chairs are free of charge.
