Show Highlights
49th Annual Car Show
When good people come together to support a common cause, wonderful things happen! Such was the 49th Annual car show on Easter week-end 2009. The Club members, families, sponsors, volunteers, participants, competitors, and crowds attending all had a goal....have fun, renew friendships, compete, admire and enjoy vehicles and most of all to be able to continue the Draggins Car Club tradition of donating all the proceeds from the show to support of Camp Easter Seal at Lake Manitou. More than 250 vehicles in Prairieland Park and an estimated attendance of 20,000 people shows that Saskatoon and area people love a good time and a great cause.

At 7am. on the three mornings preceeding the car show, members get together for mini car shows around the city. Though temperatures were chilly, hot rods and classics came out. Lots of waves and car honking are appreciated by the members as they prepare for the car show week-end.

The 10 o'clock line up for the opening Friday morning saw many excited to gain entrance. They were anxious to see the vintage roadsters, sports cars, customs, hotrods, souped up semi-trucks, muscle cars, custom drag and stock car vehicles and much more.

At the west entrance, patrons viewed the Draggins Car Show trophies and the main display that is set up to highlight their current car show poster for the year. The trophies are handed out to winning participants at a ceremony on Saturday night after many judges have examined the vehicles and "people's choice' ballots have been tabulated. The door prize also drawn for at this time was for a set of 4 Eagle tires.
In Hall C there was a display of dazzling semi-trucks and cars, a restored Sk. Transportation Highway Bus, along with the SGI and RCMP rollover and airbag demonstrations and Traffic Safety Officers along with Saskatoon City Police Motorcycle Division.

Hall E was filled to the rafters with lots of vehicles, many with very creative displays surrounding them, dealer kiosks filled with car related products and parts, a large table of model cars from the Saskatoon Modellers Club. They are planning a competition for the 50th Anniversary of the car show next year so contact them for further info. Following are some of the sights of the show.

Saturday night at the close of the show participants gathered for trophies, door prizes and cash winnings.
Some of the presentations were:
Winner of the Early Bird Entree Draw was Harry Oppenlander with his 1957 VW Beatle.
The long distance award went to Roland Delange..47 Plymouth Coupe
The People's Choice Award was presented to Walter Saruk of St. Albert, AL, owner of the 1956 Thunderbird Convertible that patrons of the show voted as their favorite.

Many Thanks........
The Draggins Rod & Custom Car Club members express a HUGE Thank You to all the many volunteers for their help in putting forth a successful 09 car show! Friends, family and car enthusiasts give their time and effort and it is all much appreciated. Several car clubs in the area provided members to help with security at the show...thanks to the Valley Kruzers, Dusty Wheels Club, Saskatoon Antique Club, and the Saskatoon Mustang and Classic Ford Club.

The car show has had a dedicated DJ, talk personality & friend every Easter week-end. NEIL NEMUTH has been our music man, announcer, informant & our 'man with the mic' cruising through the building with give-a-way prizes and fun. He has handed in his microphone after 17 years and the Draggins presented him with a trophy & many, many thanks for a job well done. Thanks Neil!

The Saskatchewan Drag Racing Association kindly allowed the Draggins club to restore and temporarily install their emblems on a home-made display that the S.D.R.A had used for their club display in the early nineties at the Draggins Car Show at Sask Place. For this 2009 show it made a terric backdrop to highlight some of the Draggins member's muscle cars in the trophy display area and on the poster for the show. The club appreciates your help, thank you.
